A Honolulu man is thankful to be alive after a surfboard crashed through his windshield Sunday morning and came inches within his face, CBS affiliate KHON reports.
Jerrin Ching was driving on the H-1 Freeway in his girlfriend's Honda Civic when the surfboard seemingly "came out of nowhere," he told the station. Witnesses told police they saw the surfboard fall off the overpass and bounced off a school bus.
"I'm just thankful to be here," Ching told KHON. "After it hit, I was like, 'What just happened?"
The red board shattered the glass of the windshield. A picture taken by Ching after the accident shows how far the object jutted into the car. He escaped only with a few scratches to his arm and face.

Police are looking for the owner of the surfboard. Ching had a message for him or her:
"Can you please claim your board, and I don't know, pay for the windshield or something?" he said. "Because you almost killed me."
