As many as 10 people shot in Chicago neighborhood

Chicago police and the fire department responded late Thursday to reports that as many as 10 people were shot in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, reports CBS Chicago station WBBM-TV.

"Multiple people" sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to area hospitals, an officer with Chicago Police Department News Affairs told the station. The ages and victims and extent of injuries weren't immediately available.

People at the scene told WBBM a small child was among the injured, and as many as two suspects fired weapons.

The shootings occurred around 10:15 p.m. , police said.

No one was in custody.

Ten ambulances were sent to the scene, the Chicago Fire Department tweeted, citing a report that 10 people had been shot.
