BOLINGBROOK, Ill. Suburban Chicago police say a small plane crashed near a bank in Bolingbrook and one person was killed, CBS Chicago reports.
Bolingbrook Police Lt. Michael Rompa said there are two burn victims in the crash Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. Rompa said emergency personnel were searching for additional victims. Rompa said the two victims were believed to be the pilot and passenger of the plane.
CBS Chicago reports that the people on the plane were a man and his wife.
Police say the plane crashed into a tree, light pole and several vehicles near a Chase Bank.
Several cars were on fire before being extinguished by fire crews on the scene, CBS Chicago reports.
George Steimer, who owns a shop across the street from the airport, told CBS Chicago that he's use to the sound of planes, but this one was different.
"It turned out it was an airplane shearing of a pole just to the left of the bank and all I saw was a wing and a belly, I couldn't tell what size it was, and then it just crashed. Then it burst into flames. I looked out and there was a man fully engulfed in flame," he said.
Authorities in Bolingbrook say they have notified the Federal Aviation Administration.
