KANSAS CITY, Mo. Multiple ambulances have been ordered to a daycare in Kansas City after two vehicles collided outside the building, a Kansas City Fire Department spokesman told CBS affiliate station KCTV5.
One of the cars crashed into the daycare. It appeared the driver of that car fled the scene, said a fire department spokesman.
The driver of the other car and 3 children were transported to area hospitals.
The Kansas City Star reported that three children were critically injured and two children were rescued from under a vehicle.
The incident occurred at 12:56 p.m. local time at the Christian Academy.
A daycare employee said 39 kids were there and all are accounted for. The employee declined to say how many were rushed to a hospital. Children were gathered outside the daycare.
Bricks surrounded the gray passenger car, which had smashed into the building. The vehicle was crushed.
Behind the car was an SUV, which also saw damaged but didn't entirely enter the building.
Dozens of Kansas City firefighters rushed to the scene. One firefighter crawled up to a window in an effort to search the building.
